Health and Wellness Therapy
Today’s healthcare is often solely focused on big Pharma manufactured drug therapy without any consideration of improving patients’ actual health and overall wellness to address and prevent illness. There is a small but growing number of healthcare providers that have been researching and utilizing the use of various vitamins as well as specific macro and micronutrients to provide improved alternative options. Chemotherapeutic Agents
Our facility was engineered looking towards the future of pharmaceutical care. At the time our pharmacy was being designed and constructed the United States Pharmacopeia (USP) had not yet released the final standards for hazardous drug compounding. This chapter is known as USP 800 and is strictly enforced by the Federal Drug Administration (FDA). The vast majority of pharmacies around the country fail to comply with the new USP 800 regulations, however here at Meta Pharmacy services we are fully compliant due to our propensity to go above and beyond current standards of practice to do what is best for patient care.
We have two negative pressure cleanrooms for hazardous drug compounding, one for sterile and one for non-sterile drug preparations. These rooms are ventilated with HEPA filtered air and are on an independent exhaust ventilation system which meets the USP 800 regulations. Our sterile cleanroom is certified as an ISO 7 environment while drugs are prepared inside of the newest model Baker biological safety cabinet. All sterile hazardous medications are prepared inside the biological safety cabinet with constant vertical laminar airflow maintaining an unprecedented ISO 4 environment. With many chemotherapy medications causing a decline in the natural immunity of a patient it is extremely important to limit all possible sources of pathogen exposure. The environment which we prepare chemotherapy agents helps to ensure there is no contamination of sterile products eliminating the IV medication as a source of infection. Not only do our negative pressure cleanrooms improve patient care, they also help to ensure our pharmacy employees are not exposed to these hazardous drugs which is also a focal point of USP 800.
We provide chemotherapy services for outpatient infusion clinics, specifically oncology treatment centers, as well as inpatient facilities, usually hospitals within southern Nevada. Our pharmacists have several years of experience facilitating oncology pharmaceutical services thus are able to assist physicians in all areas relating to drug therapy for patients with cancer. This includes antiemetic therapy, treatment of opportunistic infections in immunocompromised patients, and of course administration and even selection of appropriate anti-cancer medications.
Infectious Diseases Therapy
Several infections require extended duration antimicrobial therapy. This often requires intravenous (IV) antimicrobial therapy for at least 6-8 weeks which usually does not require inpatient stay in the hospital for the majority of this time. Typically these infections require antibiotic therapy but may also require antifungal or antiviral therapy as well, all of which we can provide as outpatient therapy.
We supply infectious disease specialist offices and infusions clinics with sterile compounded IV therapy. We can also work with home infusion companies which utilize nurses who come to patients’ homes and administer medications through peripherally inserted central catheter (PICC) lines each day. Not only do we prepare these medications in the best environment to avoid pathogen contamination of the compounded sterile preparation (CSP), our board certified pharmacotherapy specialist can also assist selecting and monitoring the most appropriate therapy for each patient. Patient care outside of the hospital can pose several additional challenges with IV drug therapy including stability, infusion time, compatibility of multiple medications, and cost to name a few. Our pharmacy team will work closely with prescribers and patients as well as insurance companies and even drug companies to help facilitate the best patient care possible.
Ophthalmic Preparations
We know when it comes to your eyes there is no room for error. Patient specific ophthalmic preparations require the highest level of care thus they are compounded in our sterile cleanrooms by experienced pharmacy specialists. The majority of compounding pharmacies are not equipped and do not have the expertise to prepare an eye drop preparation due to the requirement of sterile compounding. At Meta Pharmacy Services we have the expertise and equipment necessary to work with your ophthalmologist and provide you the most appropriate medication therapy available.
